A 22 year old American tourist from Washington State tragically died in Phuket Town after a night of heavy drinking, leaving behind stunned friends and a heartbroken girlfriend.

The young man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of his family, had been staying at the Rabbit Hotel on Phang Nga Road near Phuket Bus Terminal 1. He was travelling with his girlfriend, who is from Myanmar.

According to police reports, the man spent Saturday evening, April 5, drinking with friends before returning to the hotel around 4.30am on Sunday, April 6. He appeared visibly ill and began vomiting upon arrival at the hotel.

His girlfriend immediately contacted emergency services when his condition worsened. He was rushed to Vachira Phuket Hospital but was later pronounced dead. The case was reported to Phuket City Police Station at approximately 7am.

Police are currently investigating the incident, with a medical examination underway to determine the exact cause of death. At this stage, officers have ruled out any foul play, reported The Phuket News.

“There are no suspects or accusations at this point,” a police spokesperson stated. “We are waiting on the forensic doctors to complete their report.”

In similar news, three Thai men were killed by a train while drinking near a railway track in Lamphun province on the evening of February 17. The victims were socialising with three friends near the Ban Umong community when the accident occurred around 7.50pm.

According to police, the group had been drinking beside the track while waiting to hunt birds. A special express train travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai approached, but the three men failed to react in time. The train struck them, dragging their bodies for about 50 metres.

Two of the bodies were found on the track, while the third was discovered three metres away. The impact left body parts scattered, with limbs severed and one head missing.

Rescuers transported the remains to Lamphun Hospital for autopsy. The bodies will be returned to the families for funeral rites.
